SHN is proprietary where FLAC is free and open-source which makes it more likely for hardware and software manufacturers to include it in their products. Unfortunately this data can never be retrieved so there is no way to get back to the original file.įLAC (Free Lossless Audio Codec) has usurped SHN's popularity because it is a far superior lossless codec. MP3 by contrast is "lossy" because the compression process discards some of the audio data to make for an even smaller file size. Lossless means that the original WAV file gets compressed to a smaller size, but can be de-compressed back to the original WAV with zero loss of data. If you have a TXT file that is written to etree standards, it automates the process of tagging your live show files.Ī bit of history: SHN was the early leader in "lossless" compression formats, being released in 1993. I don't use foobar2000 as my main music player (still hung up on WinAMP due to force of habit), but I have it installed for the Live Show Tagger plug-in.
